Student 9/11 Memorial Tour

This private walking tour is specifically designed for students. It serves as a perfect companion to classroom studies or an initial exploration of the events of 9/11. Being in the place where this happened and seeing the rebirth at the memorial is an indelible way of experiencing our history.

As one of the most important historic days in our lifetime, the events of 9/11 have shaped who we are as a city, nation, and world. Come with us as we bring you into the story of the day, the tragic loss, the effort to move forward, and the resilience that has propelled the revitalization.

Duration: 60 minutes

What To Expect

Upon meeting your guide at the center of the World Trade Center site, you will be brought into the story of the creation of the World Trade Center and its iconic Twin Towers, their significance in the history of New York City, and their life up to the time of the attacks on September 11th.

From there, we explore the work of recovery, rebuilding, and revitalization that has shaped the site and the city into what it is today. This then brings us to the official memorial, known as Reflecting Absence, designed by
architect Michael Arad.

You will be guided throughout the entire memorial, connecting with the stories of the victims, survivors, and heroes of the day and the recovery period. As we explore all the hidden symbolism that exists in the memorial, you will visit:

· The memorial pools, which sit in the exact location where the towers once stood, to learn the many symbolic elements that make up the fountains

· The FDNY Memorial Wall

· The Sphere on Liberty Park

· Secret features of One World Trade Center

· The Memorial Glade that honors the workers who built the site into its current state

· The Survivor Tree, where you will connect with the ideas of what this historic moment can mean to us into the future

· And many other artistic and historic elements that the memorial contains
